Attending the great ACTFL.

It´s been a few busy months here in San Francisco; teaching, writing and starting new projects I hope I will be able to share soon.
Last month I was attending the great ACTFL (Annual Convention and World Languages Expo) organized by the American Council on The Teaching of Foreign Languages, in San Antonio, Texas.

Lit Crawl San Francisco. Where literature hits the streets.

Amazing event going on this weekend near my neighborhood. Perfect to start warming up for the National Novel Writing Month:

"The tenth annual Lit Crawl will span over three hours in the Mission District's Valencia Street corridor, featuring an astonishing 101 literary readings and events, including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, comedy and more, in bookstores, bars, galleries, restaurants, stores, cafés, community spaces, a bookmobile, a vibrator store, and a police station.

One of the most anticipated literary nights of the year, San Francisco's Lit Crawl attracts close to 10,000 people, and is the world’s largest such event. In 2008 Lit Crawl NYC launched in Manhattan, also an immediate hit. Austin was next, swarming for the first time in 2011. In 2012, we birthed two more Lit Crawls, one in Brooklyn, another in Seattle. In 2013, we expanded to Los Angeles, Iowa City, and London, and this year, Lit Crawls have launched in Miami and Helsinki.

Exploring urban art in San Francisco.

It's being great to explore some urban art in San Francisco. I am fascinated with the work of the Spanish artist, Aryz. He drew a building in Polk street using a design originally created to be painted in Andalucia, Spain, but finally he did it here due to agenda problems.
Amazing to see Os Gemeos work (many people pay thousands dollars for their work) in the Tenderloin.

Everyday I had to take this little one (Pierre) from the school to his house in the mountains!
I really learned a lot about life in Africa thanks to his family and neighbours.

One of the best experiences in my life was teaching in Cameroon.
Cameroon is one of the poorest countries in the world, and life is specially hard for children and women.
Only a small proportion of the population has access to education and basic social services.
Fortunately there are many organizations helping to build schools and hospitals where volunteers from all over the world help every year.
